Our 1st Adventures

Our first weekend we decided to go to the Sturgeon Fish Hatchery, which is 4 miles up the road. There is a dam there too, but it started to rain past our comfort level so we just headed home after. Colin slept the ENTIRE time...score! And Graham absolutely loved it!

This is a sturgeon. They are ugly! but HUGE!!!! I didn't know fish could get this big and not be sharks. They have one names "Herman" that is 83 years old, 10 feet long, and 450 lbs!!! I was shocked when I saw him. We didn't get a good picture to get the full effect, so you'll just have to come see for yourself. Graham kept calling them sharks.

Graham was a bit scared at first. He wouldn't take his eyes off them to look at the camera.

So that was our first weekend. Today we went "to town" and saw Shrek 4. It was ok. Graham wasn't as impressed and I understand why the reviews were so bad, but I don't regret seeing it. We really wanted to go see "How to Train Your Dragon" but it isn't showing around here anymore. Monday Jon has off, which has never happened. His brother, Danny, wife Annarose and their little girl, Tula, live in Eugene. It is only 2 1/2 hours away so they are coming out to visit. I am very excited for familiar faces. I don't know what we'll do here to entertain them, which means we'll have more fun coming up with our own ideas. Nonetheless I know Graham will be excited. I can tell he definately misses his friends, cousins and grandparents. He talks about his friends Bracky, Mason, and Josh back home all the time. He asks for his cousins Tess and Lexie often. He wants to call Grammy all the time. Bless her heart I love her, she talked to him for about an hour the other day. He didn't want to hang up and kept bothering me to call her back for an hour, so he stole my phone, ran into his room, somehow called her and said "Hey, what are you doing?". How could I be mad? He misses his Nana too. Every older woman figure he sees he has to stop and strike up a conversation and then wants them to hold him and not leave. It's starting to be sad.

Through it all we are having a blast and loving it here. Already I have been thinking of when we return to Utah I will be sad. I know I will miss the beauty of the landscape here and just the love for the outdoors and things to do. I'll just have to be less of a homebody when we move back. We miss and love all our friends and family and welcome any who want to visit. I'll be better about blogging than I have because this is our only connection to our world back home. Love you all!

Week 3

We only brought the bare essentials to live here, so here is our elegant dining room table. Graham loves the "newness" of our place and plays trains and cars in his double-sliding closet.

Cute Colin...his neck is normal again. It started sagging to the side again when we arrived but is fine now. He has his own room and we are sleep training him. Day 1- good. 2-awful, Jon gave him a TON of baby food and it was only his 2nd time and woke up with the worst saddest tummy ache. This is day 3. Look at that face!!! I just love him!!!

Our adventures have begun. Week one went by so slowly. I did find out the little town has a playgroup and went and got to know some ladies in town and kids Graham's age. (Thank heavens!) It is weird not being in my Utah Bubble, but I have to say I don't miss it. It is really nice having Jon home at night and on the weekends. I started to cook a lot and even cooked a little bit of fish, which I'm not too keen on. Yes it was only canned salmon, but it's a start.

Our ward here is amazing. Last week in church Jon was in excruciating pain. I felt we needed to go to the ER. He said his back had this stabbing pain inside, but it wasn't muscle. Luckily a TON of people came to our rescue. One lady I have never met took Graham home with her, the RS President led us to the hospital because I didn't know where it was. We were there for 3 hours and found that Jon was passing a kidney stone. FUN! They gave him morphine and fluids and gave him a CAT scan. We found he only had one and passed it while we were at the hospital. I was just so relieved he was ok. He has been perfectly fine since. Oh the adventures here! My next post I'll tell you what we have done the last few weekends.

We made it

So yes we made it here. We are actually living in Cascade Locks, which is in Oregon, because I couldn't find a place closer to Jon's work. It is very small. We have like 3 places to eat, 2 gas stations, and NO stoplights. Haha. I have to say though I love it here. It is so amazingly beautiful. The first few days my eyes couldn't take it all in. There is so much to do here. As we drove on the 84 we passed like a hundred state parks, so we will just hit a new one every weekend. More posts to follow...

N E W S

So new development. Jon got an amazing internship for the summer in Bingen, Washington. Ever heard of it? (Didn't think so.) So we are moving in 3 weeks. AGH! It is an internship with a company called Insitu that does the unmanned aircraft part to Boeing. Pretty flippin' cool if you ask me. So we will leave Logan for the summer season. I'm pretty sad about missing the derbies, so will Graham. BUT ya'll can't get rid of us that easily. We will be back in August and finish one more yeah of school. So that's the big N E W S! Love and miss you all.

As many of you know Jon recently went to Spain and Israel. He had the opportunity to visit the tomb thought to be where Christ was resurrected. I was in awe at these photos. I hope to one day visit this site. I am so grateful this event happened for us all.

What we have been up to...

Graham really likes lemon juice, but not when I mix it with sugar and water for lemonade. Colin gets cuter and cuter. Jon swears he looks exactly like me. What's your vote?

Oh yeah...and this. Graham is fascinated by all the new baby toys. And apparently the things for Mom too. I'm just glad I have this blackmailing photo for his whole life!!!

So yes, we just hang out at home all day, still trying to figure out life. Jon occasionally joins us. The poor guy. I love him so much. It's hard on all of us having him gone so much, but he is working so hard to provide a fabulous future for our family. I can only admire and love him for that.

We're starting to slowly function back into society. I always realize I need a new wardrobe. Ah, one day. Thank you to those of you who have contributed to my sanity- most of all my mom and sis. Lindsay is nice enough to let me come crash her nights and just have adult conversation while Graham plays with his cousins. They are so cute together and so fun to have so close. My cousins and I only really got together around Thanksgiving at the Ranch so it's fun to see my kids will have more than that for the time being.

Jon is leaving the country for almost two weeks as a study abroad for HR to Jeruselem and Barcelona next month. The boys and I will be escaping to Vegas. I am really excited to have his family's help, see my Dad, and maybe most of all see the sun again and feel it's warmth. I can only dream of it now. (Do I even own shorts?) We have decided to stay an extra semester so Jon can also get him MBA. It will be so cool for Jon to be able to complete an extra Masters Degree in just one semester. We couldn't pass up the opportunity. So we plan to be in Logan at least until Summer of 2011.

Sorry I don't post much. Colin doesn't let me set him down, but my mission this week was to be able to do more of that. So far- we're doing better. If only he would sleep laying down by himself at night. I love seeing other people's kids who are a few months older and thinking...oh it gets better. Graham being 2 doesn't help that insight much right now. But watching him play with Colin makes me so excited for them to grow up together. Colin will be on the ground crying and Graham will sit next to him and say "Sorry" "You okay". And of course he shares his trains as shown above.
